Well... I am a little late on my first day log as we are happily starting our second
day of Session 2. All is well. We have 24 adults, had a busy day yesterday of
swimming, bowling, and our Casino Night with Elvis Live!
This is an experienced group of campers, and mostly this session is all about golf. Twenty of
the 24 campers are golfers and are learning lots, spending time with Ralph, making
clubs, and preparing for their day on the Gallup Golf course Wednesday. We have only
one new camper this session, Micah, and he is having a great time. Today we have a
big afternoon for ten of the campers who will go bowling, stay in Gallup for a
barbecue and then go to the Indian Dances in downtown Gallup. Wish us well!!
We had a busy day both at camp and out of camp today...Jennie, Carlos, Jared, Delvin, and Steven
enjoyed swimming this morning. Then this afternoon we had ten campers who went bowling, then to a
barbecue in the park, and then to the Indian Dances in Gallup...a very busy day and everyone was
tired, but a great day. We will miss David and Ula, our two counselors from Poland who have been
with us for five years. They are heading back to Poland to go back to their jobs as a computer
scientist and a lawyer, and to get ready for their wedding August 30. We will miss them, and wish
them well. Our golfers will be heading to the Gallup golf course tomorrow, an exciting day. The
golfers making clubs this year are almost finished and love the product. We will be taking another
group of campers to the Indian Dances tomorrow night. Everyone is well and happy. The counselors
are working hard but enjoying ther campers very much.
I know many of our parents look at the web site for daily updates and I apologize for lagging this session.
Just means it's been go-go-go around here.
Today we had nine campers go bowling (David bowled 100, hurray!)
and then enjoyed pizza at the bowling alley before heading off to see the Indian Dances in Gallup. We were joined
by seven more of the campers so that means only eight people were left in camp; they too had a great time with a
movie and "coffee house" fancy coffees and cakes.
We only have 24 campers this session, only one of whom is new
to us. It is so good to be with friends. Our adult campers enjoy the craziness of the counselors, and boy were
they crazy last night at the talent show. I don't know why it is that summer camp brings out the zaniness in
perfectly responsible adults... but I am glad it does because it keeps us all laughing. Ask your camper about our
counselor Archie when they get home.
Archie is from England and willing to do almost anything to make his campers
laugh.
I also want the parents to really thank Heather, our RN, on closing day. Heather was a counselor with us
for three years and she really knows and cares about our campers, I am so impressed with her thoroughness,
conscientiousness, and attention to delay.
We have been swimming, bowling, and doing arts and crafts. The ladies
had a spa day yesterday and the gentlemen played horseshoes. Friday is our last full program day. There will be
golf, bingo, wheelchair races, and then a trip to the rodeo in the afternoon. Our closing evening program is a
formal dinner and dance with the theme "Medieval Knights". Don't forget camper pickup is ten am on Saturday.
We had a busy last day of the session today. Campers finished their golf clubs this morning, made posters with their
cabin pictures and awards, and enjoyed a little Bingo before heading off after lunch to the Gallup Ceremonial Rodeo. The
whole camp went to Gallup... a first ever for our adult session. Thanks to the campers for their patience loading and
unloading in the vans. Campers saw bullriding, steer roping, team roping, and brono riding. They also enjoyed dancing
and displays at the cermonial grounds. We came back to camp for a late dinner, a formal dinner themed "Medieval Knights"
and then the ever popular last night dance. This group of campers comes back every year and has high expectations, we
hope we have met them this year and that we will see them all in 2004.
Pick up time is ten am Saturday... Please thank your camper's counselors, they have really worked hard to keep up the
personal care and physical work while putting on enthusiastic programs. I am very pleased with the staff and our session
and hope all of you parents and campers are as well.
