Session 2 log, 2002
August 4th-5th, 2002
Our first full day of Session 2 was a fun and busy one. One group of campers went swimming this morning, this afternoon one group went to the Zuni Museam, and others did Arts and Crafts, and Archery. The big activity this session is, of course, golf. Fifteen campers have signed up to golf daily with our Get A Grip Golf Camp professional, Ralph. Another five campers have signed up to golf occasionally. Our golfers are broken into two groups with one group with Ralph in the morning and the other in the afternoon. Today was a day on the putting green here at Camp, as will be tomorrow. Wednesday the golfers will be making clubs and hopefully Thursday will be a trip to the Gallup Municipal golf Course.
Our evening activity was our game show night. We had counselors and campers dress up as famous celebrities to compete in our game show, and then matched up counselors and campers to play "The newly camper counselor game" in which counselors must leave the room while questions are asked of their campers (Do you have pets? In what month were you born?") and then the counselors return to see if they can give the same answers given by their campers. Gina showed she knew Ashley very well, although she didn't know her birth month. Liz really knew Donna well, including her birth month. Laura knew a lot about Ed, but Andrew did not shine as well with his answers about Eric. It was a fun way to end a busy, active day. No complaints from our campers (or staff) when we got into bed at 9:00pm.
August 6th-7th, 2002
Busy day at Camp today. Our ambulatory advanced golfers; Randy, Jared,Ed, and Joe went to golf at the public course in Gallup today and were warmly received. Our non-ambulatory advanced golfers will go tomorrow. Our swimmers; Steven, Chris, Carlos, Jenny, Delvin, and Matt had a good morning at the pool. Our high point bowler this afternoon was David with Ashley a close second. We were treated to one of our staff, Andrew, playing a beautiful piano concert for us before our coffee house tonight. Sometimes in the midst of the high energy activities here at camp it is nice to have some quiet reflective time. We are really blessed to be able to share such beautiful surroundings with wonderful people.
Tomorrow the Gallup Ceremonial starts and we will participate with trips to the Indian Dances and the Rodeo. We schedule our activities for our adult session totally on camper requests. Not all of our campers like to travel out of camp and we certainly don't make them. Opening day we ask campers to indicate their preferences of activities and we have been able to get every camper to their preferred activities at least once in the session. Logistically that is sometimes a challenge, but well worth it for the appreciation expressed by our campers.

We had a very busy day at camp today. Donna P. was the busiest of all as she went to the Gallup Golf Course in the morning, then to Red Rock State Park for the Gallup Intertribal Ceremonial dances, stayed out for chicken dinner and then went to the rodeo. Of course she was joined by many other campers but most of thecampers did only one or two of the field trips, not all three! The weather was great. We have had rain off and on but none of the events were rained on today and that was great. Tomorrow is our last full day of program. This week has flown by. Campers will have an opportunity tomorrow to golf, do archery, enjoy a "spa", go to the rodeo if they didn't today, make memory posters, and get ready for our big "Sixties Rock Concert and Dance" finale tomorrow night. We will see all you parents at 10:00 am Saturday. Everyone is in good health, tired, but happy!
August 9th, 2002
Friday evening, our last together at camp as Session 2, 2002. It has been a great week. The highlight for most of our campers has been golf. Seventeen of our twenty two campers were in the full golf program and golfed, made clubs, or worked on their golf handbooks everyday. And STILL fit in swimming, bowling, Indian Dances, archery, arts and crafts, and cooking. We took another group of campers to the Rodeo today as well as finishing up projects here on site. The ladies enjoyed a spa afternoon complete with facials and manicures. Our staff has been great, a special thanks needs to go to our Program Directors Bill and Deb who are tireless in their enthusiasm and creativity. We are looking forward to having every camper return in 2003. See you at ten tomorrow morning!
