Opening Day went so smoothly! Thank you parents for being patient with us...we have the highest return staff rate of any Easter Seal Camp in the country and I know everyone feels relieved to see familiar faces. However we always have new counselors. I am particularly impressed with our group of new counselors this year and I hope you left feeling confident that your son or daughter would be well cared far and have fun.
The weather did not dampen our spirits, despite the fact that it interrupted some opening day activities. We had just gathered for our first activity outdoors when it started pouring, we went into the lodge, started the activity, and then in fifteen minutes were able to return outdoors to finish as planned! At campfireless last evening again we were only half way through when the rain started and we moved indoors...and enthuuuuusiastically finished our activity. Our new young campers are particularly impressed with our craziness, and our older more sophisticated teens put up with us!
Every camper was well behaved last night, went to sleep appropriately...none of the administrative staff were up with behavior problem campers and our nurse was not awakened for any reason so a very auspicious beginning to our week!
Campers today are involved in a variety of activities. This morning we have four groups: a hike, advanced cooking class, play practice, and filming for "Funniest Camp Videos". This afternoon we have a group going bowling, a group going to Gallup for swimming, a group staying on camp for water play and swimming in our inflatable pool, and a group doing arts and crafts.
Tonight's activity is "It's a Knockout" in which campers engage in a variety of relay races geared to getting the counselors as messy as possible. This includes our all-time favorite relay "Make a Cake" in which the first camper goes down to the staff sitting in a chair and breaks an egg on the staff's head, the next camper adds flour, the next water, etc.
Have an enjoyable week, and rest assured that we are working our hardest to provide an outstanding camp experience for each camper entrusted to our care.
